Yes, that’s a bird’s nest. No, that is not an egg. It’s a river rock! Creek stones and river rocks are dear to my heart. I also collected some common cactus flowers, baby tears, ferns, and lots of other tidbits today. It was beautiful out before 3 and I just wanted to get dirt under my fingernails. I replanted some cacti and started working on a small terrarium. Unfortunately, it started pouring down rain and I didn’t want to stand under the thunder.
I am going to fill my night with Tom Petty, cheap beer, and library books. Might take a night off from making art because it’s been such an eventful week. Good things are coming though, so cut me some slack, eh?! A guest post on Monday, Brandi’s Color Palette Blog Walk is on Wed, and Emily’s Color Collection/June is White is this month! Also, Chongolio found something pretty neat called 30 Days of Creativity for June. If that isn’t enough to get you inspired and creating, something’s wrong! Have a junebug-in-a-pitcher-of-lemonade kind of weekend! (that’s a very good thing for you non-country folk)

Due to the sudden craze, I’ve been wanting to try out making eggshell planters. So I took the opportunity to save all the egg shells when I was preparing food for Thanksgiving and a day later I sowed some catnip seeds in them.
It’s a fairly simple method:
Crack your eggshells carefully so that the bottom half is as tall as possible (about three-quarters of the egg).
Rinse them with water and poke a hole at the bottom with a small needle.
Then, with the same needle, poke a few holes at the bottom of each egg carton. Cut off the lid and place it underneath.
Sow your seeds and watch them grow!
You can then transplant these directly into the ground. Eggshells are biodegradable and contain healthy nutrients for your soil!

missyork:

I absolutely love my new digs here in Los Angeles. And I’ve been very busy making this space my own. I decided I wanted a unique centerpiece for my living area as well as my own terrarium. So, after a trip to home depot and the home goods store, I assembled my little garden this morning using a great how-to video I found here.

My garden includes three succulents, beautiful moss, shiny gravel and a pink kitty resembling my cat Sara from home. I hope my green thumb will help this terrarium thrive!
